About EPIC!
EPIC (Engaging, Partnering with, and Investing in Carolina Native Culture) is a cultural immersion experience for InterVarsity students (Native and non-native) and InterVarsity staff. Throughout our 7 days together, you will understand and experience NC Native culture in deeper ways, grow in your cultural competency to connect with Native people, and experience NC Native ways of being both Native and Christian. We will spend time with the federally recognized tribe of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians and the North Carolina state recognized tribe of the Lumbee Indians.

I'noli Hall (originally from North Carolina...truly a NATIVE North Carolinian!) is the executive pastor of Carpenter’s Shop International Church in Ahoskie, NC. In this role, he manages the finances of the church and streamlines the church's operations. He envisions a thriving local church that overcomes barriers to success through sleek infrastructure. With over 10 years of experience in youth ministry and college ministry in several nations, he is passionate about life transformation through worship and discipleship. He leads worship in diverse settings, including among indigenous people groups, and aims to shape disciples who know the Father, love Jesus, and walk in the Holy Spirit. I'noli graduated from Yale University with a Master of Divinity degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music composition. He earned his diploma of ministry from Andover Newton Theological Seminary at Yale.
Chris Peele, and his wife, Kayla are both proud members of the Lumbee Tribe and currently live in Oklahoma City, where Chris serves as a college professor at Oklahoma State University. They are blessed with two wonderful children: Gracelynn and Jackson.
Chris has served in ministry for the past 20 years, joining Native InterVarsity in 2020. He has served as a campus staff leader at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma, which ministers to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. Currently, he is InterVarsity campus staff minister at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
One of his greatest joys and passions is restoring the Gospel to Native peoples and helping them explore a life walked with Jesus while honoring Native culture.
Amy Phillips (ALSO originally from North Carolina...a NATIVE North Carolinian!) currently serves as the Area Ministry Director for InterVarsity in Eastern North Carolina. She has worked for InterVarsity for 25 years (including 16 years as the Campus Staff Minister at NC State University). Amy has BA in Sociology of UNC Chapel Hill and a MA in Intercultural Studies from NAIITS: An Indigenous Learning Community (formerly known as North American Institute for Indigenous Theological Studies). “I am excited to be able to share in this unique opportunity to listen and learn from Native tribes in North Carolina.
NOTE: All travel and food costs will be covered once arriving in Raleigh, NC by 1:00 pm on July 1. If flying, please arrive to RDU by 1:00 pm on July 1 and book return flight AFTER 4:00 pm on July 7 out of RDU.
Cost does not include airfare or travel to starting place. Grants are available - talk to your InterVarsity staff.
There is a $50 non-refundable deposit required to register. We need a minimum of 5 registrants for the trip to happen. If the trip is cancelled due to low numbers, you will receive a full refund.
